In the US, we often operate our lives like this: work until the job gets done, take a short break, and start all over again. While working hard is great in and of itself, too much work can lead to burnout, which causes mental and physical health problems. Entrepreneurs should keep their lives in check and not commit to overworking themselves. Here are a few basic ways you can take some time to relax on a daily basis.

Read For Fun

Many people enjoy reading nonfiction, but nonfiction is often another work tool for entrepreneurs. Reading books about famous business owners will only get you thinking about work, so set those books aside in the evening. Instead, pick up a fun read and set some time aside to enjoy it. Even if you only have 15 minutes, reading is a great way to stimulate your mind without taking up too much energy. Plus, more reading means more creativity, which is perfect for entrepreneurs!

Enjoy Your Food

How many times do you hear of entrepreneurs who are so busy they only have time to stop at McDonald’s? All of the carby, greasy food adds up over time and can lead to serious health problems. Instead, set aside time to eat nutritious meals made from scratch. If you need some help in the kitchen, there are plenty of subscription services that make your work easy. Then, once your food is ready, turn off all of your devices and take time to be fully present while eating. You’ll savor the flavors much more, and all of the work you put in will lead to a few great moments of relaxation.

Small Get-Togethers

This may not be relaxing to some, but for extraverted entrepreneurs, small get-togethers can be a perfect way to relax after a long work week. Host a dinner party for a few couples in your friend group, or meet up every week to watch your favorite show. No matter what you do, you’ll be happy to have some social interaction in a non-work environment.

Date Nights

If you’re in a relationship, you know that it’s easy to make your significant other take a backseat to work. Instead of falling into this trap, take some time to spend together and rejuvenate your relationship. This should be a regular occurrence, but it doesn’t always have to be dinner and a movie. Take a weekend trip to the mountains or spend their birthday doing everything they’ve been wanting to do for months. Just make sure not to neglect this area of your life. You’ll soon come to find that spending time together is a fun and relaxing way to get away from work.

If you are starting your own business or establishing a current one, you might forget that you need to spend time relaxing, too. Few things in business cannot wait one more hour or one more day, so set a precedent for your company and take time for yourself. Ultimately, when you get back to work, you’ll find that relaxing made you able to focus more on the task at hand.
